Character Analysis

From the movie...................THE INCREDIBLES

We were given a task in which we have to analyze a chosen character from the chosen movie and the movie is The Incredibles. This movie was released in 2004 made by Pixar Studio. It is the 6th Pixar animated film but was the first Pixar's film to featured an entirely human cast characters.

A very brief explanation  about the story :

The Incredibles is a story revolves around the life of a retired superhero couple,Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) and Helen Parr (Elastic Girl). They have to leave their superhero work because of people had lost faith of their credibility and wanted these super humans to live a normal live. After all the incident with superhumans right, they decided to start a normal family. They were blessed with 3 children, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack, each with their our super powers. Bob who was tired of his boring everyday life was offered a secret job that required super human strength . He accepted it without second thought and keep it as a secret from his family. Little did he knew that this will uncover a whole lot truth and he had to fight a new super villain alongside his family.

From this story, I had to chose a character and my chose character is.............Edna E. Mode 

And that answers the 1st question, 'Who is my chosen character?'


Question 2 : What is Edna's Traits?

When talking about Edna's Appearance, the first trait that we obviously see is she is.........SHORT. I mean seriously, she's way shorter than other characters. This can be caused by her family trait. She is half-Japanese and half- German. She obviously took things from her Japanese side. She's short, have squinted eyes in which sometimes look larger that normal Asians  and of course her accent. She has that old grandma from Chinese movies voice which i must, really suits her

She has a HUGE nose, that is one thing i can make sure of. The most important of all, she knows how to make cloths. She is a fashion designer after all. This would explain at later questions

Oh, and one more. She address to everyone with 'dahling'. Not darling but 'dahling'. Hmmmm, strange.

As for her personalities, Edna shows some traits to have easily mood swing. She can be cool at one moment and angry the next second. That is what makes her character stands out. Fall into the same category, Edna is short-tempered but as easily she gets angry, she also easily cools down



Question 3 : What is Edna's Role?

Pretty sure Edna is just the supporting character. So she does not play a large role in the plot. But storywise, she is a famous fashion designer, known for her beautiful clothings not only for supermodels, but also superheros. Her job as a costume designer ended with the downfall of superheroes. She loved her job as a superhero costume designer to a point that she would say things like..

She helps the flow of the story by showing Bob's whereabouts to Helen


Question 4 : What is Edna's goal?

As a supporting character, Edna doesn't really have an ultimate goal in mind to achieve. All she wanted to do was to make costumes for superheroes again and she manage to get it. When Bob received the secret job,he went to the first mission and damaged his suit a bit. He went to Edna for some repair job. Edna who was excited decided to make him a brand new suit. Not satisfied by that, she continued to make  supersuits for Bob's entire family including the baby.

Question 5 : What does Edna fear most?


Hmmmmmmm.........What do Edna fear? I have no idea. The story does not reveal such information. In my opinion, although this is more towards what she hate, she definitely dislike costumes with CAPES. This may be caused by past incident with deceased superheroes whose death was related by misfortune involving capes. That is very understandable if she fears that these capes with bring the same fate for Bob too.



Question 6 : What is Edna's exaggerated  characteristic?

One thing. She is one of the most sassiest character I knew. She will say whatever she wanted to say without considering other's feeling. As an example is this Gif below...

This trait is so exaggerated to show off Edna's interesting character. But with that, she was able to help the Parr Family to get together


Question 7 : What is Edna's relationship with other characters?

As I said before, Edna used to be a famous superheroes costume designer. While she maybe does not have any connection with the antagonist of this story, she definitely play quite a role for our heroes. She design super suit for the Parr Family. In which she included special features for each suit. As example, Helen suit can be stretch to an unbelievable extend. Dash's suit was made to withstand extreme friction that occurs when he ran. Violet's suit can also become invisible when she used her powers with the help of some sort of super cloths. Finally, Jack-jack suit can handle high  heat and also bullet proof. This shows how much Edna put in her client's preference in each suit
